Danny and Josie tied the knot today in Muncie, Ind. They both looked great, her dress, his white vest/tie combo. And they sure can dance!!!

Scuba clean up at Redondo

I dropped my dad off at the airport and on the way back, I stopped by Redondo to check out the scuba divers and may, just maybe, be a photog again. As it turns out there was a clean up going on. Removing old fishing lines, squid jigs and other fishing debris. As it turns out, among the debris was an octopus in a pepsi can, a crab caught in a tangle of fishing lines and a handgun. Yeah, a HANDGUN. Rusted but obviously a 9mm or .45 semi-auto.

Bellingham Herald intern Katie Barnes is leaving us after a half year here in B'ham. And frankly, it bites. She's fun, talented and a bit quirky. (she showed up at a get together at my home wearing a flowing transparent dress over her jeans) She's plays the piano very well, shoots very well and has done a hell of a job of making a website for me. Thanks Katie! So we'll get together tonight, toast her, and bemoan the fact that our world got a little less interesting without her around. Bummer.

No man is an island but Katie could be..

Went sailing with the Bellingham Herald intern Katie Barnes on Sunday aboard Photo Editor Russ Kendall's sailboat. We sailed to the correctly named Barnes Island. While the island is private and off limits. We moored up to Clark Island, within throwing distance of Barnes. Later Katie get to sail the boat as it heeled over and we cruise at just around 4 knots.

Went to Oregon for three days of running around seeing friends and such.. here's a few shots. Including one bad owner. Pink!? on a Great Dane?? Well her name was Lucy..

Bear hats, hula and a pillory

A recent walk around Fairhaven gave me these two things. The first, two women hula hooping wearing bear hats. Left is Ms B Hooping Allure, aka, Jamie Berg and her friend Jackie. The second, a plaque stating that there had been a pillory stand at that location. Makes me want to bring back the pillory stands just to have a reason to toss rotten tomatoes.

A walk around Lake Padden resulted in a giant dog terrorizing others with a log and a group of young people hogging the benches on a dock.

The future and a piano player

So, as you've heard, I have joined the ranks of the unemployed. And frankly, it sucks. I always had a place to go, people to talk to everyday. And met new people everyday.. many whom I'd never meet if it weren't for the job. It's made me realize I depended on my job to be my way of getting around and meeting folks. A social life via the newspaper. And it worked for me it seems. But this lack of a place, that had a focus and a purpose, to go each day is not working well. So like the tightrope, well, slack rope walker to be exact, is a metaphor for having to try something, new, tricky, and unbalancing. That's the future it seems. On another note, the piano player is the Bellingham Herald's current intern Katie Barnes. Aside from being an accomplished player, she's won two Best of Photojournalism Awards.. she's quite the renaissance woman.. 

getting back on the blogging horse

I think the real reason I haven't been blogging, aside from the fact I hate to type, is that I went so long between blogs I forgot the password. And to add that a lot of my photog friends are doing such cool stuff, that I felt it paled in comparison. But I have decided to pick up the torch and show what I do here. For most of the last year it's been local high school sports on a deadline, so most of it is really action but lacking the story moments since I am sending on deadline just after halftime. So I will endeavor to not put up just to show something. Or maybe I will ..
